All of you have heard about the devastation that occurred in Japan this morning, or at least heard tidbits of information. Over 400 people have died, and hundreds more are missing. Hundreds of thousands of dollars of damages have happened, and many are left without a home.
I saw a trending topic on Twitter this morning while checking the news of the earthquake. "#prayforjapan" it said. I was saddened by this. Why not "#donatetojapan", or "#savejapan"? I don't care if you're religious or not, but prayer is NOT going to help these people. These people need real and tangible things to get through the devastation. Sitting on your ass and praying will not do anything, sorry.
You can text REDCROSS to 90999 to donate $10 to the Red Cross to help the Japanese in this state of emergency. I don't know if it's USA-only, but if you're not certain, please click the link above to go to the Red Cross website and donate directly. It's tax deductible, and will help out so much, more than prayer will ever do.
If you can't afford to donate, please spread the word about donating to the Red Cross however you can; via Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, or here on dA. Don't just sit around and do nothing; these people need us.
EDIT: If you want your money to be given to the Red Cross faster, please use the link above. Texting the 90999 number is still good, but paying via credit card goes much faster.
I always get mad when people draw pictures saying "pray for Japan". If they truly have the time to waste to draw little images, then surely they have a minute to donate? >_>
I have been, don't worry! I started a fundraiser at school for the Save the Children Foundation for Japan...I go to a private school, so we have "jeans days" (dress-down days) for usually a dollar or two, which makes tons of money 'cause everyone hates uniforms. It'll be in two weeks, so I'll let you know how much money we collect!! I think both praying AND acting really help a lot...sending them good thoughts and hopes helps their spirits, while sending food and money and help will satisfy their physical necessities. It's so good to see people care so much about others in need!!
Praying is the only option for a lot of people because, like most of us, they're feeling the effects of the economy, maybe even worse than some.
So I say if they want to pray, let them. Countries all over the world are flocking to Japan and all the other places affected anyway, so it's not like they're entirely dependent on our donations, right?
(By the way, I'm not trying to sound rude or start and argument. xD I donated to Japan but I have several friends who didn't because they just don't have the money/items to spare).

You are walking through the woods, and you stumble upon a family of Sasquatches.
Would you yell, "AHH, BIGFOOTS!" or "AHH, BIGFEET!"?
